Welcome to Parivartan!
We are a community based non-government organization working in the field of de-addiction
and mental health since 1991. Parivartan was established by a doctor couple Mrs.
Shaila Dabholkar and Narendra Dabholkar. Both of them have spent most part of their
work in the battle against the superstitious practices through the work of Maharashtra
Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samittee (MANS). Both of them realized that lack of awareness
about scientific treatments for the addictions and mental health problems is one
of the most important reasons for people getting exploited by the superstitious
practices and hence decided to institutionalize their work through Parivartan.
We believe that suffering due to addictions and mental health problems can be reduced
to a significant level by timely and scientific help. Most of the patients with
addictions and mental health problems can be meaningfully reintegrated back into
the community if the community starts supporting them rather than discriminating
them.
Parivartan has its main office in Satara District of Maharashtra. We run a range
of de-addiction and mental health initiatives in the Satara District. These initiatives
include OPD and Residential De-addiction services, mental health services, providing
community based rehabilitation for patients, awareness campaigns about addiction
and mental health issues and helping patients to reintegrate into the community
through meaningful income generating activities.
Parivartan has expanded its work beyond service provision and is now making efforts
to develop model community mental health programs through the INCENSE and JAN MAN
SWASTHYA program.
Training lay people and volunteers in the field of mental health remained one of
the important focused area of the work of Parivartan and the organization has developed
a robust system of identifying, training and monitoring lay health and volunteer
delivered mental health first aid interventions.
In addition to deaddiction and mental health activities Parivartan also works in
the area of organic farming. We partner with Maharashtra Foundation and Sadhana
in Maharashtra Foundation award ceremony to honor the eminent social activists and
writers in Maharashtra every year.
